Doha, Qatar – The Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) celebrated the Family Day in Qatar which occurs on April 15th every year, where the center’s facades were illuminated in green to highlight the importance of the family and its role in community building.
The idea of dedicating a family day in the State of Qatar was created at the invitation of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser, President of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, to celebrate the Family Day, a pioneering idea approved by the Council of Ministers in 2011.
DECC supported the Global (Earth Hour) initiative last night by switching-off the main lights of the venue from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. towards the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 172 countries worldwide.
DECC team has joined over 100 delegates from 16 countries attending the UFI Conference for the Middle East and Africa, held on 8-9 April.
A mix of speakers from both inside and outside the business events industry discussed the role of smart technologies, economic outlooks and market expectations affecting our industry.
DECC’s CEO Mr. Jose Vicente has participated in the UFI’s Global CEO Summit 2019 which took place from 30 January to 1 February in London (UK).
The event brings together the biggest names in the worldwide events industry for top-quality networking, high-level content and entertainment, and is exclusively for board-level executives of global exhibition and event organising companies and venues.
